What is CSS-LUCAS?

From its inception, CSS-LUCAS was conceptualized as a hyphenated organization. The hyphen indicates a deep interconnection between science and practical problem-solving. CSS focused on delivering analytic products to government and industry. LUCAS did fundamental and applied research, to include partnering with universities and industry; delivering education and training, which in addition to courses included organizing conferences, workshops, and getting expert lecturers to clients; and strategic advising services. Now combined they comprise a holistic approach to client needs from strategic design, to engineering implementation solutions, to education, training, and coaching.

Why doesn’t CSS-LUCAS focus on just industry or government, why both?

CSS-LUCAS was founded to work with government in shoring up our national security through Modernization. However, it became obvious that our products and services, including the educational components, were applicable and useful to industry as well. Helping industry engineer more resilient systems increases their profitability and is our pleasure. Helping government engineer resilient systems is our patriotic duty.

Why Modernization?

Modernization is a theme, it is a way of thinking about a host of issues government and industry clients face. It enables a holistic approach to IT management and service delivery and it unleashes the imagination to think beyond what is to what is possible.

Why Automation?

We treat this topic in our e-book, aptly titled Why Automation?, but for here we can say with confidence that automation is the linchpin of Modernization. We design optimization (productivity) and resilience (security) designs to make organizations more profitable and secure. Automation is a cost saver, it reduces human error by removing routine tasks, but more importantly it frees trapped capacity. Freeing trapped capacity means we free team members up to manage processes rather than just executing tasks, this is what enables imagining and creating the future.
